Jan. 15 workshop to address workforce challenges facing area’s small businesses

Event has passed

A workshop on “Finding, Hiring and Retaining Quality Employees” will be presented by Mary J. LaFontaine, Regional Director for the Maine Department of Labor, and Bill Card, Economic Development Specialist for the U.S. Small Business Administration on Wednesday, Jan. 15 at 8 am at the Lincoln County Regional Planning Commission, 297 Bath Road, Wiscasset.

This is a free small business workshop developed in partnership with the Wiscasset Area Chamber and Lincoln County Regional Planning Commission.

Come learn about what real companies do to get and keep great employees. This will be an interactive workshop, where small business owners get to talk to an expert in the hiring field, and take home workforce-related ideas to build on. While there’s no magic bullet to the hiring process, Ms. LaFontaine will share what she’s seen as tried and true approaches from her years working with small businesses at Maine Department of Labor’s CareerCenters. She’ll also talk about the new workforce we live in today.

Mr. Card will discuss how to work with your employees to understand the challenges that small business owners face. We will also discuss how employees can add value by thinking like an entrepreneur.

To register, please email or call Pat Cloutier, pcloutier@lcrpc.org or 882-9600. The snow date is the next Wednesday, Jan. 22.
