Remember St. Philip’s Church’s chowder suppers held for many summers in Wiscasset? Well, even if you don’t, there’s a chance to experience the delight of its haddock chowder swimming in milky, buttery goodness on Saturday, Nov. 13. Pick-up time is from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. For a donation of $12 per meal, patrons can grab a pint of haddock chowder, biscuit, cornbread and apple crisp to go at St. Philip’s, 12 Hodge St. What a delightful, cozy meal for a Saturday night supper in November!
Proceeds benefit the Feed Our Scholars (FOS) weekend backpacks of food for Wiscasset Elementary School students experiencing food insecurity. St. Philip’s and First Congregational Church of Wiscasset, and other people are the founders and primary caretakers of FOS and its Set For Success program, but the group alone cannot keep the initiatives functioning. They need the support of the greater community. Children of all ages cannot attain true learning potential on empty stomachs, and hunger doesn’t take a break on weekends; therefore, the group supplies bags of breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks for the children until they’re back in school and accessing food there.
Currently supporting 46 students, FOS needs funds, especially as food prices have increased significantly. Unable to hold in-person events, the group has chosen the next best thing: Take-away. Call the St. Philip’s phone, 882-7184, leaving a name, number of meals ordered, and a return phone number for verification. Or message your reservations through Facebook@WiscassetFeedOurScholars. FOS requests reservations be made by Wednesday, Nov. 10.
