    A memorial service to celebrate the life of David P. Fischer of Wiscasset will take place on Saturday, Aug. 24 at 1 p.m. in the Wiscasset High School gymnasium. During the service there will be an opportunity to share memories of him. People are invited to bring a book to swap in honor of Dave's love of reading.

    Eric Traphagen, 79, formerly of Boothbay, Maine passed on to his next life on July 30, 2019, his 31st wedding anniversary.

    Eric was born and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania. He finished the last two years of high school at Staunton Military Academy in Virginia, then received a bachelor of arts degree from Oberlin College in Ohio, majoring in political science.

    Kevin M. McGrath, 56, died unexpectedly Aug. 4, 2019 in Boothbay Harbor, Maine.

    He was born Nov. 23, 1962 to Charles and Patricia McGrath.

    Kevin visited Boothbay Harbor in the summer of 1983, he loved the harbor so much he never left. He worked at Gray’s Wharf, BIW, and as a stern man for many years.

    He was born Dec. 13, 1966 in Boothbay Harbor to Arthur and Leona Poore. He grew up in Boothbay Harbor and attended Boothbay Region High School obtaining his GED.

    Craig L. Giles

    Craig Leland Giles, 75, died July 23 of cancer at his home in Boothbay Harbor surrounded by his family.

    He was born Feb. 15, 1944 to Leland and Ruth Bryenton Giles. He was married to Sarah Jones Giles.

    Craig was drafted into the Army in 1966 and went to Vietnam, discharged with the Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, and Expert Rifle. Craig fished, lobstered and worked at various boatyards as a varnisher.

    Lincoln Morse Furber, 87, died July 16, 2019 at his home on Southport Island, Maine.

    He was born Sept. 28, 1931, in Quincy, Massachusetts and grew up in neighboring Milton, attending Milton elementary and junior high schools. His high school years were spent at Thayer Academy in Braintree, Massachusetts. He graduated in 1949, president of his class, and remained a loyal alumnus all his life.

    Christine June Gudroe, 94, of Topsham, Maine, formerly of Old Bath Road, Wiscasset, Maine, passed away July 15, 2019 with her family at her side.

    She was born in Sheepscot, Maine on June 6, 1925, a daughter of Lester and Harriet (Dodge) Vinal. She graduated from Lincoln Academy and she married Raymond C. Gudroe.

    She was a bus driver for Pine Tree Academy in Freeport for many years and a little-unknown secret is that she was employed at Red’s Eats in Wiscasset.

    Marie Borroff

     Marie Borroff, distinguished scholar, poet, translator and teacher of English literature, and one of the pioneering women at Yale University, died at her Branford, Connecticut, home on July 5.  She was 95. A long-time summer resident of Boothbay Harbor, this is the first summer in 70-some years she was not able to view the scene she loved so well, across Bottle Cove to Indiantown Island, Ebenecook, and beyond.

    She was the daughter of Carl and Jennie Manna, born in Boston, Massachusetts on Jan. 2, 1925. Emma graduated from Dedham High School in 1942. She worked as a secretary for the State Street Bank in Boston, then for Wells Jewelry in Attleboro, Massachusetts. Emma’s greatest passion in life was her family and being a mother.

    Bradford Michael Christopher, 39, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Lewiston on May 29, 2019. 

    Born in Tarzana, California on March 31, 1980, he was a son of Michael and Renee Christopher of Alna.  

    Bradford grew up in California and attended school in Newbury Park, before moving to Maine and graduating from high school in Wiscasset.  He went on to attend the University of Maine where he studied social sciences.

    Richard A. Verney

    Richard Arnold Verney, 89, of Alna passed away peacefully at Togus VA Hospital in Augusta on the morning of June 22, 2019 after a brief illness.

    Richard was born Sept. 29, 1929, in Gardiner to John and Selena (Gilbey) Verney of Sheepscot Village. He was one of seven children. Richard attended Lincoln Academy and then joined the Army during the Korean War, serving his country in Labrador, Canada as a crane operator.

    Clyde A. Perkins Jr.

    Clyde A. Perkins Jr., 87, of Gardiner Road, Dresden passed away on June 21, 2019 after a long illness.

    He was born in Dresden on Oct. 21, 1931 the son of Clyde  and Lela Perkins.

    Clyde worked at Bath Iron Works 46 years, retiring in 1997.  He also worked as a marine worm digger for over 50 years.

    Clyde enjoyed just plain working, particularly keeping his yard and home in perfect condition. He never replaced anything he couldn't fix himself.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 23 at the Westport Community Church on Westport Island. A reception will immediately follow the service at the Westport Island Town Hall. Burial will be private.

    She was born Sept. 16, 1960 in Boothbay Harbor to Elaine (Merrill) Grover and Earnest “Buster” Grover. She attended Wiscasset schools and worked at Health Text, Bath Iron Works, and L.L. Bean.

    Frances was the eldest child of Sereno and Frances Brown. She grew up in Boothbay Harbor and graduated from the local schools and Gorham State Teachers College. Frances went on to teach school in Georgetown, Maine.

    Donna was born in Damariscotta on May 2, 1950 daughter of Dana F. Davis and Mary Lorraine (Casey) Davis. Donna graduated from Boothbay Region High School. She married Gary E. Lewis on June 13, 1970.

    Donna loved spending time with family, friends, and especially her grandchildren.

    She was predeceased by her parents, Dana and Mary Davis.

    George Walker Christopher,  62 of Alna, passed away in a tragic accident on his Harley Davidson motorcycle, on June 6, 2019 in Wiscasset.

    Born on April 22, 1957 in Augusta, he was a son of Michael and Patricia Christopher.

    He attended Wiscasset High School and graduated as part of the class of ’75.  After graduation, he went on to attend the University of Maine in Orono.

She was very close to her late great aunts, Eleanor Smith and Mary Wright, the former owners of Squire Tarbox Inn also on Westport Island.

    Marion Bailey, 99, of Wiscasset passed away June 7, 2019 at Avita of Brunswick.

    She was born in Wiscasset on June 2, 1920, a daughter of George C. and Pearl (Dickenson) Grover. In 1938, she graduated from Wiscasset Academy and married Fernald R. Bailey in 1940. Marion was employed as a telephone operator in Wiscasset for 13 years.

    She was a lifetime member of the Woolwich Grange since 1936.

    He started his career at Albany Felt Co. in Albany, New York, subsequently working at Albemarle Paper Manufacturing Co. in Richmond, Virginia.

    Cheryl E. Greenleaf, 72, of Westport Island, passed away on May 26, 2019 in Arizona.

    She was born in Sanford on July 16, 1946, a daughter of Frank T. and Beatrice (Colby) Greenleaf Sr. Cheryl attended Westport Island schools.

    Cheryl was crippled all her life but was able to take care of herself and drive.

    She loved knitting, spending time with family, friends and she always had a smile.
