It is with sadness that Special Olympics Maine announces the death of founder and former CEO Mickey Boutilier.
Melvin “Mickey” D. Boutilier died on December 24 after a brief illness with family members by his side.
Boutilier was a teacher, volunteer, veteran, and good Samaritan but was best known for his leadership in Special Olympics. He served as executive director and then CEO of Special Olympics Maine for more than 35 years.

Louis Rego, 85, of Trevett died December 26 in the Gregory Wing at St. Andrews Village in Boothbay Harbor.
He was born June 3, 1927 in Fall River, Mass., to Manuel and Mary Reis Rego. He grew up in Fall River and attended local schools. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 during World War II. He served in the South Pacific. After the war he served in the Coast Guard for 16 years and was stationed in Boston, Mass., South Portland, Portland, Ore., and Juno, Alaska.

Kathleen “Kat” Lewis, 62, of Vassalboro, formerly of Boothbay, died December 23 at Maine General Hospital in Waterville.
She was born November 18, 1950 in Los Angeles, Calif., to Otis and Naomi Knight Self. Kat grew up in Southern California and attended local schools. She served in the Army National Guard in the 1970s.

Jennifer Mary Bryer, 43, of Trevett died December 25, 2012 surrounded by her loving family, in Trevett.
She was born July 7, 1969 in Boston, Mass., to Joseph and Mary Marshall Fiumara. She grew up in Hampton, N.H., and attended local schools. She graduated from Babson College.

Peter T. Dawson, 71, of Hallowell died unexpectedly Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012.
He was born in Newton, Mass., on May 28, 1941, the son of Allister and Gertrude (Titcomb) Dawson.
He graduated from Belmont High School, Ohio Wesleyan University and Boston University Law School.

Warren A. Richardson, 98, of Palmer, Mass., a former resident of Monson, Mass., died Wednesday, December 12, 2012.
Born in Ellington, Conn., to the late Clarence And Carrie (Peck) Richardson, his family first moved to Palmer and then Monson. Warren graduated from Monson High School.
He was a member of the greatest generation, serving in World War II. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army in the 859th Transportation Company in India.

Richard A. Smith, 79, a longtime summer resident of Boothbay Harbor, died Friday, Nov. 30 in Annandale, Va. He grew up in Newington, Conn. and held a B.A. degree from Yale University and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of Finance. Dick Smith came to Boothbay Harbor in the summer of 1962 after marriage to his wife, Barbara, and the two had a cottage in Sprucewold.

Neil W. Barter, 73, of Boothbay Harbor died December 5 at St. Andrews Hospital in Boothbay Harbor.
He was born September 23, 1939 in Boothbay Harbor to Malcolm and Avis Campbell Barter. He grew up on Barters Island. He graduated from Boothbay Region High School in the class of 1958. He married Sandra Pinkham in 1962. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1962 to 1965.

Barbara Louise Wright, 64, of Hollywood Blvd., Whitefield died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
She was born October 24, 1948, in Gorham. Her parents were George “Robert” Sr. and Eva Louise (Mains) Berry.
She attended Portland schools and married Norman Byrnes Sr. She was employed at Rynel Factory in Boothbay and married Kenwood Wright Jr. She was then employed for Employment Services of Maine Homecare for many years.

Carole Tauber Raizman, East Boothbay, a longtime chief proofreader and editorial assistant at the Boothbay Register and the Wiscasset Newspaper, died at her home in the early morning December 4 following a long illness. She was 69.

She was born in Staten Island, N.Y., August 27, 1922, a daughter of George E. II and Clara M. (Randolph) Weatherbee.

Grace Meserve Nein of Torrington, Conn., died peacefully after a brief illness Monday, Nov. 26, 2012 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital with her loving family at her side.
Grace was born in Cambridge, Mass., January 19, 1940, daughter of the late Earle and Dorothy Stevens Meserve, who later moved their family to Maine.

He was born February 13, 1926 in Bath to Walter and Lelia Parris Tibbetts. He grew up and lived his entire life on Southport.

Ellen Heath (Stevens) Staley died November 25, 2012 at the Hill House in Bath, three days shy of her 95th birthday, surrounded by her family and many friends.
She was born in Bath on November 28, 1917 to Hiram T. and Harriet (MacDonald) Stevens.

Christine Paske Geier, wife of the late James A. D. Geier, died October 15, 2012. The Geiers lived in Cincinnati and spent their summers in Boothbay Harbor. Born December 13, 1947, in Buffalo, N.Y., Geier was the daughter of the late Joseph and Jane Paske.

Rollins Alan Hale, 69, of Boothbay Harbor, died peacefully in his sleep at St. Andrews Hospital Monday, Nov. 26, 2012. The son of Rollins L. and Pauline J. (Carlson) Hale, Rollins grew up in Rutland, Mass., graduating from Wachusett High School in 1961. After attending Clark University for a year, Rollins joined the U.S. Army where he spent some time overseas in Stuttgart, Germany.

James “Jim” A. Taliana, 71, one of the most prominent artists in the Boothbay region, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, in Lititz, Pa. Jim was born in Detroit Michigan and is an alumnus of the Center for Creative Studies (CCS) in Detroit where he majored in advertising and fine art. He worked in an ad agency for 28 years on accounts such as Cadillac and Whirlpool, and he started his own design firm while teaching advertising at CCS until he and his wife, Gloria A.

Mary Stevens Grant, 88, of Bourne, Mass. died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012 after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of Burton A. Grant to whom she was married to for 71 years.
Born in Boothbay Harbor, she was the daughter of the late Bert and Florence (Bourget) Davis.

Frances L. Caddick, 90, of West Kingstown and formerly Coventry, R.I., died Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Shady Acres Nursing Home after a long illness.
She was born in Boothbay Harbor on October 27, 1922, the daughter of William and Lulu Rapley Stewart. In her younger years she lived in Boothbay Harbor until moving to Rhode Island in 1962. For many years she worked as an assembler for the Bostitch Staple Gun Company in East Greenwich, R.I.

Joan Stickney, a former summer resident at Ocean Point, died in Portimao, Portugal October 30, 2012.
Joan had spent summers with her parents, George and Charlotte Stickney, at her grandmother Catherine Mower's cottage for many childhood and young adult summers.

Raymond Croxford Jr., of Wiscasset, 88, died November 10, 2012.
He was born in Kenduskeag, the son of Raymond Sr. and Mary Ellen (Elwood) Croxford. Raymond attended schools in Dixmont and Carmel.
In 1948, he married his soul mate Minnie Dora Berry of Ashland and the couple resided in Wiscasset, in a home he built. The home was finished in 1954.

Ray A. MacDonald of Wiscasset, 64, died peacefully November 11, 2012 at his family home.
Ray was born in Bath, the son of Norman and Frances (Morse) MacDonald, February 27, 1948. He graduated from Morse High School.
He married Dianna Dickinson March 28, 1981; they were married 31 years.

Barbara Bowman Allison, 81, of Naples, Fla., and Boothbay Harbor, died November 1, 2012 in Naples.
She was born in Douglaston, Long Island, N.Y., to parents Virginia and Waldo Bowman. She attended schools in Long Island until she enrolled at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. While there, she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.

Ruth L. Presby, 86, of Lewis Drive on Westport Island, died at her residence with her family at her side on Monday, October 22, 2012 after a courageous five month battle with cancer.

On the morning of October 25, Boothbay Register and Wiscasset Newspaper staff members learned of the death of employee Dave McKown, who worked at the paper for more than 40 years. Dave was discovered by friends at his camp near Machias, a place he visited every October. This is a sad day at the paper. He will be deeply missed.
Dave wrote his own obituary, as only he could, and we publish it here in his memory.

Gloria I. Brewer, 75, of Edgecomb, died October 19, 2012 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick. She was born January 19, 1937 in Boothbay to Amos and Phyllis Barter.
She graduated from Boothbay Harbor High School in the class of 1956. She worked as a nurse’s aide for many years working alongside Frances Rule. She was a long time active member of the Boothbay Baptist Church. She enjoyed crossword puzzles.

Lawrence H. “Beanie” Pitcher Sr., died of pancreatic cancer Monday, Oct. 8, 2012 at the Togus VA Hospice Unit.
Beanie was born December 26, 1925 to James A. and Gladys (Bennett) Pitcher. He attended Boothbay Harbor schools and enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 17 during World War II.

James “Jim” McGuiggan died peacefully in his sleep early Thursday morning at The Hill House in Bath. He made his residence there for the past year. Jim was born in Bath, the son of John and Margaret McGuiggan. He grew up in Bath and graduated from Morse High School in the class of 1939.

Lewis A. Woodworth, 83, of Dresden died on Saturday, Sept. 22 at his home in Dresden after a long battle with prostate cancer.
Lewis was born in Saskatchewan, Canada on May 31, 1929. He moved to Brooklyn, N.Y. and worked at the National City Bank. He then joined the U.S. Army in 1951 and served in the Korean War until 1956 as a communications operator. After the war, he received the Korean Service metal with three Bronze Stars and the United Nations Service Medal.

Elsie Palmer, daughter of Edgar F. and Edna T. Miller, died at age 84 on Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, in Sudbury, Mass., surrounded by her family.
Elsie was born in Hartford, Conn. She lived most of her life in West Hartford, Conn. and Boothbay Harbor. Most recently, she had been living with her daughter Anne in Sudbury, Mass. She graduated from Wm. Hall High School in West Hartford and attended Connecticut College in New London, Conn.

Donald T. Black of Edgecomb died September 30.
During his career, Donald worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Beltsville, Md. After retiring, he and Verna moved to Edgecomb.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and Air Force Reserve.
