Charles E. “Skip” Baldwin III, born on Nov. 7, 1932, died Dec. 26, 2016.
Born in Worcester, Massachusetts, he graduated from Kimball Union Academy in 1950 where he was a member of the football, lacrosse and ski (downhill, x-country, jumping) teams. He graduated from Harvard College in 1954 where he played varsity lacrosse for three years and was a member of the Owl and Hasty Pudding Clubs.

Virginia Carlisle MacLeod, 100, of Carrollton, Georgia and Boothbay, Maine, formerly of Stuart, Florida and Princeton, New Jersey, died peacefully Dec. 19, 2016.
Virginia was born in Boothbay Harbor on Jan. 20, 1916, the oldest daughter of the late Captain Louis A. and Mary Alice Wylie Carlisle.

Paul A. Viveiros, 77, of East Boothbay, died Dec. 24, 2016 at the Zimmerli Pavilion at St. Andrews Village in Boothbay Harbor with his loving family by his side. He was the devoted husband of Diane (Tomlinson) Viveiros with whom he shared 52 years of marriage.

Valentino A. Balducci, 86, of Boothbay Road, Edgecomb died Dec. 21, 2016 at his residence.
He was born in Framingham, Massachusetts on Sept. 25, 1930, the son of Primo and Anna Balducci. Valentino was married to Marilyn Banks in May of 1950.

Byron B. Nichols, formerly of Augusta and Boothbay Harbor, died in Ft. Myers, Florida on Nov. 4, 2016. He was 96.
Byron was born in Gardiner, Maine in 1920, one of four children born to G.H. Nichols and the former Lila May Paddock. He graduated from Gardiner High School in 1937 and married Isabelle d’Auteuil of Augusta in 1941.

Marilyn Ava Landry, 88, cherished wife, mother and grandmother, died peacefully at Miles Hospital on Dec. 17, 2016 as her loving daughter Lisa sang to her "You Are My Sunshine," which was Marilyn and Lou’s extra special song.

Thomas Milburn Gopsill VII, 63, of Farmington, beloved husband, father and brother, died in the comfort of his home with his loving wife by his side on Dec. 17, 2016.
Tom spent the last two years involved in a medical trial for patients with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. Tom wanted to make a difference, if not for himself, but for others.

Mary Alice Latter, 52, of Boothbay died Dec. 16, 2016 at her home on Back River, surrounded by her loving family.
Mary was born July 1, 1964 in Boothbay Harbor to Nicholas and Marjorie (Lewis) Ranco. She grew up in Boothbay Harbor and graduated from Boothbay Region High School in the class of 1982. She also graduated from Mr. Bernard’s School of Hair Fashion in Lewiston in 1985.

Judith M. Dunsford, 69, died peacefully, surrounded by her loving husband, Jon, and her sister, Mary on Dec. 14, 2016 at her home after a fight with breast cancer that lasted for over 12 years. Her children, Ethan and Sarah were also able to arrive for her birthday on Dec. 10, just three days before she passed away. She was born Dec. 10, 1947 in Schenectady, New York to Russell and Dorothy (Schultz) Anderson.

Jim Wade, 75, of Damariscotta, died the morning of Dec. 7, 2016 while surrounded by his loving family.
Born on October 29, 1941 in Sand Springs, Oklahoma, he was the son of Woodrow and Margie Wade. He moved to California at age 2, and graduated from Sanger High School.

Joanne D. “Jo Jo” Russell, 37, of Alna, formerly of Bath, died Dec. 6, 2016 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
She was born in Bath on Jan. 29, 1979, a daughter of Samuel C. and Dorothy E. Russell.
She attended Bath schools and Morse High School and was employed by Brackett’s Market, The Harbor Light Café, Yum Mee Restaurant and Shaw’s, all in Bath. In 2006 she was employed at Shaw’s in Wiscasset as a deli clerk.

Edward Noble Simpson, 84, of Wiscasset, died peacefully on Dec. 8, 2016 at the Bodwell House in Brunswick.
He was born in Belfast, Maine, on Sept. 17, 1932, the son of Orville & Mabel (Noble) Simpson. He grew up in Bath and graduated from Morse High School, Class of 1950.

Rebecca L. “Becky” Burkhalter died Dec. 3, 2016 in Annapolis, Maryland, surrounded by family. She was a former summer resident of the Boothbay region.
Becky was born Rebecca Ann Robinson in Pensacola, Florida on Aug. 28, 1937. Her parents were Elvera (Boyette) and Henry Robinson.

Harold D. Abbott, Sr., 85, of South Bristol, died peacefully at The Sussman House in Rockport on Nov. 25, 2016.
He was born June 4, 1931 in Albany, New York to Reginald Abbott and Rose (Mahoney) Abbott. He was raised in Albany, New York and attended local schools. He entered the Army and served in the Korean War. After serving four years in the Army, he then joined the U.S Marines.

Charles Niemenski, 92, died peacefully on Nov. 13, 2016 at his home on Southport Island.
Charles grew up in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, attended local schools through the ninth grade. He joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 14 and was one of five brothers who served during World War II in Naval Ordinance for Anti-Sub Warfare in the South Atlantic and Brazil.

Shannon Walter Gilbert, 76, of Boothbay, died Nov. 7, 2016.
He was the son of Velma Haley and Walter Gilbert of South Bristol. His career was related to the sea, first as a lobsterman, and then as a crewman and captain of commercial fishing vessels. He was also a boiler engineer for several years at FMC in Rockland. He served in the Navy for a brief period during the 1950s.

Leota D. Horstman: a life of love, well lived. With remarkable grace and perseverance, "Lee" valiantly battled lung and bone cancer in her last year of life. Her cheerful outlook and enthusiasm for each day rarely shifted, despite living with the ravages of vascular dementia for seven years prior. Leota was surrounded by love in her Naples, Florida home, when she died in Kim's arms, October 2016.

Betty Rosalind Barlow Prescott, 85, died Nov. 1, 2016 in the presence of her loving family.
She was born March 13, 1931 in East Boothbay, Maine, daughter of Everett and Rosamond Barlow.
Betty grew up in East Boothbay. Betty's father was a lobster fisherman and boat builder and her mother was a master seamstress among many other talents and occupations.

Lillian M. Parker died peacefully on Nov. 4, 2016 from the complications of Wegener's Granulomatosis, a battle she fought with both grace and courage.
Lillian was born on June 1, 1938 in Owls Head Harbour, Nova Scotia, to Mabel (Eisan) Parker and Homer Parker. Her childhood, spent kicking in the waves of her ocean home, was a fond memory that she held close to her heart.

Robert Alexander Norton, 82, of Damariscotta, Maine died Oct. 28, 2016 at the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta, Maine.
Born on Jan. 13, 1934 in Beverly, Massachusetts, he was a son of the late Joseph P. and Marjory (Macaulay) Norton.
Robert grew up in Marblehead, Mass., and graduated from Brown University in 1956. Following graduation, he served honorably for three years as an officer in the United States Navy.

Robin was 74 years old, born on Dec. 24, 1941 in Winthrop, Massachusetts. He was married to his angel, now in heaven, Cathy Clarke (Higgins). He was also predeceased by a brother, Joel Clarke of North Ridge, California.

She was a graduate of Boothbay Harbor High School, Class of 1946. On Jan. 11, 1952, she married Edwin Harrington, the love of her life, and together they raised two children; Ed Harrington Jr. and daughter Trudy Mayhew, both of Boothbay Harbor.

Charles D. “Toots” Lachapelle, 83, of Winthrop, died Oct. 20, 2016 at Togus Springs Hospice after a long illness.
Charles was born May 4, 1933, the son of Dillian (Currier) and Fred Lachapelle.
He attended Winthrop schools and Nasson College in Springvale. Charles served in the U.S. Army and was a front line medic in the Korean War. In 1961, he met the love of his life, Gerene Beaulieu. They married in September of 1962 and spent 54 wonderful years together.

Charles “Charley” Edward Parker of St. Augustine, Florida died Oct. 16, 2016 at the Bailey Hospice Center five days after his 87th birthday.
Charley was born in Rockville Centre, New York on Oct. 11, 1929. He was the son of Ralph C. Parker and Mildred H. Parker. He grew up on Long Island and in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Dennis Irving Reed of Jacksonville, Florida died Oct. 16, 2016.
He was born February 26, 1940 and raised in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. This is where he developed his love of the water. He did a stint in the Army, but decided the water was better suited for him, so he joined the Coast Guard. He met Sharon Reed in New Jersey and it was a case of love at first site. He asked her to marry him three days later and they were married about two months later. They were married for 52 years.

Winifred Mary Sherman, 91, died Oct. 4, 2016 at Sandhill Cove, Palm City, Florida.
She married Paul Sherman on Oct. 19, 1945. They had three children, Paul Sherman, Peter Sherman and William Sherman.
