    October is the month for pumpkins, cornstalks, trees electrified with color, apples; the time of thrills and chills ... Boothbay Railway Village’s Harvest Fair, the Damariscotta Pumpkinfest & Regatta, ghost trains, haunted history tours, potlucks and scary tales read in a spooky opera house ... of art shows and sculpture tours ... hiking/walking the Boothbay Region Land Trust preserves or at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens ... And in Wiscasset ... there’s Oktoberfest ... and Halloween Nightmare on Federal Street event ...

    November leads us into a time of Thanksgiving and celebration ... Boothbay Lights and Gardens Aglow bathe the region in white and multi-colored lights signaling the beginning of the holidays ... turkeys and more pumpkins ... families gathered for Thanksgiving cheer with loved ones on Thanksgiving Day ... and then the Christmas-Yule-Hanukkah-Kwanza-shopping  season ... Santa comes to town for his first visit the Saturday after Thanksgiving at the Boothbay Common ...

    December sees the return of Santa, this time accompanied by Mrs. Claus, a band of merry elves and other North Pole characters for the Harbor Lights Festival; the Festival of Trees  - that adds to the magical atmosphere of the Opera House at Boothbay Harbor, venue for The Dough Ball and Gingerbread Spectacular;  ... the celebration and Lights of Hanukkah, school holiday concerts, Men’s Night ... the Holiday Train and Candlelight and Cocktails on the Rails at Boothbay Railway Village; Yule/Winter Solstice;  Victorian Christmas at the WW&F Railway Museum in Alna, Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Year’s Eve ...

    1-7: Pumpkinfest & Regatta - Downtown Damariscotta - Major events Oct. 3-8 include: the giant pumpkin regatta, pumpkin drop, the Pumpkinfest Parade, pumpkin boatbuilding, pumpkin painting and carving on Main Street ... for all the details visit www.mainepumpkinfest.com!

    6-8: 51st Fall Foliage Festival - Boothbay Railway Village, 586 Wiscasset Rd./Rte. 27, Boothbay. Large craft fair, pumpkin carving contest, children’s activity corner, live music, food!

    13: Oktoberfest - First Congregational Church, 28 High  St., Wiscasset. German bratwurst, sauerkraut (for starters!), pumpkin decorating, yard  sale, crafts, kids’ corner.

    13: U.S. Air Force Heritage America Band - Opera House at Boothbay Harbor, 86 Townsend Ave., Boothbay Harbor. Free concert, donations accepted.

    21-31: Hike the Halloween Story Trail - At a BOOthbay Region Land Trust preserve to be announced. Follow the signs that tell the story!

    26 & 27: Ghost Train! BOOthbay Railway Village, , 586 Wiscasset Rd./Rte. 27, BOOthbay. Ride the steam train in the dark of night where ghouls, witches, vampires, and ... who knows what else lurks - if you dare! FMI: 633-4727

    30: Annual Scary Readings & Potluck - Opera House at Boothbay Harbor, 86 Townsend Ave. Doors creak open at 5:30 pm, no early admission – dinner at 6. Readings at 6:45. Not for families with young children.

    31: Halloween Parade - 4 p.m. - Costumed children meet at the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library and trick or treat at the local businesses on their way to the Opera House.

    31: Nightmare on Federal Street - Halloween parade, costume party, live music ... on Federal Street in Wiscasset Village!

    10: Early Bird Sale - Wiscasset’s holiday extravaganza! Special discounts at local businesses - break out those gift lists! For details, see the Nov. 8 edition of the Wiscasset Newspaper!

    17: Early Bird Sale & Pajama Party! WAKE UP!!! Grab a coffee and stay in those jammies! Boothbay region businesses have special discounts waiting for all the early birds (sometimes extra special ones for the pajama clad shoppers).     23: Art in the Square - The annual holiday exhibition at Boothbay Region Art Foundation, 1 Townsend Ave., Boothbay Harbor. 12” x 12” canvases painted by regional artists sell for $100 each. Opening reception Saturday, Dec. 1.

    24: Santa at the Boothbay Common - Old St. Nick makes his first appearance in the Boothbay region every year after Thanksgiving Day. Sometimes he’s accompanied by Mrs. Claus. Treats, cocoa, caroling. 6 p.m.

    24 through Dec. 31: Gardens Aglow - Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens  500,000 lights transform the gardens into a magical wonderland. Thursday through Sunday, 4-9 p.m. Tickets through CMBG. For tickets and shuttle information, visit www.mainegardens.org.

    30: Festival of Trees - The magical forest of themed holiday trees returns! A Boothbay Region Garden Club event at the Opera House at Boothbay Harbor.

    1: Harbor Lights Festival - Santa, Mrs. Claus and their North Pole entourage arrive at the Town Landing, Boothbay Harbor, 1 p.m., by boat. Wagon rides, craft fair, tree lighting on the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library lawn (4 Oak St.), caroling with musicians of the Boothbay Region Band, live Nativity at Our Lady Queen of Peace (Atlantic Ave.), lighted boat parade!

    1: Festival of Trees - The magical theme decorated forest of holiday trees continues! Opera House at Boothbay Harbor, 86 Townsend Ave.

    1-31: Gardens Aglow - The holiday lights event continues at Coastal  Maine Botanical Gardens, Barters Island Rd., Boothbay. Thursday through Sunday, 4-9 p.m. Tickets and shuttle information: www.mainegardens.org.
