Higgins wins 800M, 1600M and 3200M MVC championship races
The Boothbay/Wiscasset Girls' Track & Field team finished second in the Mountain Valley Conference Championship meet May 29 at Maranacook Community High School in Readfield. Boothbay/Wiscasset scored 96.8 points. Lisbon won with 108 and Winthrop finished third scoring 93.5.
Karen Higgins won three conference championships. She won the 800M race with a two- minute, 21.96 second mark. She also won the 1600M running a five-minute, 11.68 second time and won the 3200M with an 11-minute, 43.37 mark.
In the 100M dash, Boothbay/Wiscasset's Rose Campbell finished second with a 13.72 second mark. Winthrop's Ella Rice won with 13.21. Teammates Moriah Smith finished fourth with 13.86 and Olivia Rittal finished sixth with 13.95. In the 200M dash, Campbell finished third with a 28.07 second time. Winthrop's Rice won with 27.49. In the 400M dash, Rittal finished second with a one-minute, 4.02 second mark. Lisbon's Addy Burkhardt won with 1:01.07.
In the 100M hurdles, Boothbay/Wiscasset's Sophia Mansfield finished sixth with a 19.31 second time. Maranacook's Evelyn Stevenson won with 17.25.
Boothbay/Wiscasset's 4x100M relay team finished second with a 53.87 second time. The team included Moriah Smith, Sophia Mansfield, Olivia Rittal and Rose Campbell. In the triple jump, Strozier finished third with a 31-foot, 8.75 inch mark. Mansfield finished sixth with 30-7.
in the discus, Campbell finished fourth with an 85-foot, eight-inch throw. Hall-Dale's Jessie Willey won with 101-9. In the 1600M race walk, Boothbay/Wiscasset's Arabella Hodgdon finished second with a nine-minute, 41.78 second time. Lisbon's Branwyn Obptande won with 9:39.52.
The Maine State Class C Championship meet is Saturday, June 7 at Messalonskee High School in Oakland.
