Butterfly day at the Library

On July 8 we were fortunate to have Vermont’s Jerry Schneider at the Wiscasset Public Library for his Butterfly Presentation.  He has offered nature programs in schools and libraries for the past twelve years.  His butterfly program was a slide show that compares butterflies to moths, takes a look at wing patterns and symmetry.  Jerry also discussed his trips to Mexico to follow the Monarch migration and showed fascinating slides of the Oyamel Fir trees covered with Monarchs in the mountains of Michoacan.

After the informative slide show and question and answer session, everyone headed outside to the library’s backyard to create their own butterfly T-shirt with stencils and pieces from nature.

The next program on the FIZZ, BOOM, READ Summer Reading Schedule is July 29, 2014 at 2:00pm with Tim Caverly’s “Allagash Tails and Tales”.
