a lecture on Thomas W. Hyde, Founder of Bath Iron Works

Please join us as Bud Warren, a well known Maine historian educates us about this noted man from Maine and how he helped shape the nation and his home state of Maine.

Thomas Worcester Hyde was born in 1841, raised in Bath, and attended Bowdoin College and the University of Chicago. As a Commissioned Officer in the 7th Maine  Volunteer Infantry Regiment in 1861 he fought in the Second Bull Run and several other key Civil War battles. In the battle at Antietam he had three horses shot out from under him and received the Medal of Honor for his heroics. He returned to Bath after the war and purchased a local iron foundry which became of  the premier shipbuilders in the nation and remains so to this day. General Hyde served three terms in the Maine Senate and was also Mayor of Bath.

Bud Warren was also raised in Bath. He attended Yale University and later taught in Hawaii, Massachusetts and at the Hyde School in Bath. Bud has lectured on many Maine historical topics over the past 40 years and is well known not only here in Maine but also throughout the country.
