Acclaim missed

    Dear Editor:

I just finished reading the Wiscasset Newspaper and The Lincoln County News ... finding what appears to be ... an error?

The front page of the Wiscasset paper gives credence to a young man (who happens to work at Sarah's) attempting to join a school board in Alna, while the front page of the Lincoln County paper shows a picture and type of a completely different nature.

When a woman such as Cheryl Rust, about to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award, after running a successful restaurant in Wiscasset (also on Water Street) for over 40 years is acclaimed for her efforts not only in business but in her life's work of supplanting those who are in need, does not even get press, much less the front page, something is terribly wrong.

I believe it is the present climate of this country ... those who shout the loudest, those who pretend to be able to do things they are not, and those who would take up space where others could do more good ... seem to go forward. As my last editorial spoke of the support for those who bring encumbrance to the MDOT proposal ... they need to be recognized and dealt with. There are those on the advisory committee who should be heard, and definitely ... those who should not. There are some who seem to be conditioned to require the sign "Prettiest Village in Maine" be changed negatively forever.

I have neither grudges to bear nor any axes to grind as to the subjects or matter involved except to say, we should be out there praising and congratulating those who have done wonders for a town like this, such as the owner of Le Garage, Cheryl Rust.

If you have not read the article in LCN of 3/9, I suggest you do so. It is worth the half dollar to read about this woman, her family, and her accomplishments.

My words are not in any way intended to malign those of the Boothbay/Wiscasset papers. They are friends and respected members of our community.

    Jim Collins
