Alna Column: Breakfast, lilies and voting

Tue, 10/28/2014 - 8:30am
Doreen Conboy, our town archivist, is looking for copies of town reports for 2009-2010, 2010-2011 and 2011-2012. She is maintaining a alternate set of reports held by the Committee for Alna History. You can drop them off at town office. If you have any from years gone by, really long ago, those could be donated to archives vault, too. Doreen and committee would greatly appreciate any help you could give.

Lisa Packard and sons Ezra and Vernon have bought and moved into the Jordan's house on Dock Road. Lisa is having a birthday this week. Happy birthday and best wishes and hope they like living in our little town.

There will be a Hunters Breakfast at Alna Fire Station on Nov. 1, 4:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. The usual cooks and servers will provide eggs cooked to order, ham, baked beans, home fries, biscuits, muffins, donuts, coffee and orange juice. You get all of this for $7 for adults and $3 for 12 and under. They are having 50/50 raffle also. I won't see many of the real hunters, the ones who come at 4:30 a.m., so  they can be out by the time the sun comes up. Wishing all the outdoorsmen and women good luck with your first day of hunting.

On Nov. 4, voting will start at 8 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. at fire station. Come in to vote and say hi to your hardworking election folks.

On Nov. 1, the HVNC is having a pruning workshop from 9 to 11 a.m. Forester Paul Miller will instruct on how to prune your trees to get the best productivity from them. He will show you how to use the right tools to use and the safe way to do it. For more information, go to www.hvnc.org/registration or call 207-200-8840.

I was coming back from Damariscotta Monday morning and was surprised to see pond lilies. The marsh just across road from the turn off to the Newcastle Town Office was full of lilies just opening up. I think that is  the latest I have ever seen them in the pond.  It looked like spring instead of fall.

Hope you have a good week and watch out, the deer will be on the move.
