Alna Column: Send me some news

Fri, 03/27/2015 - 1:15pm

Welcome to Alna's new officials for 2015: Melissa Spinney, second selectman; Douglas Baston, third selectman, Aaron Miller, treasurer; Jeffrey Verney, road commissioner; and Barbara Baston, school board member. Four of these folks have served before and know the ropes. This is Melissa's first time as a selectman. I wish her the best in this new adventure she has taken on. To you experienced officials, keep up the good work and give Melissa some pointers.

I have asked the paper to put my email on the column so folks can get news to me. I have decided to put my email in here to see if it will help me to keep in touch: racelady23@yahoo.com.

If I don't get any news from folks, I will give up the column. When I was in the office it was easy to get news from folks in town. The HVNC part of column is about all I have been getting.

Andy McEvoy lives in Alna and is the director; he sends me emails faithfully. Thank you, Andy; now if I could get Juniper Hill School and some of the committees in town to do this, I would be so happy.

In the summer, Kathy Pendleton keeps me updated on the suppers, etc. Maybe the chief, Mike Trask, could give me info on what is going on, some of the things they are doing, like firemen's musters, training, or fundraisers.

If you want me to keep doing the column, I need news. If someone in Alna wants to take it over, that's OK, too. I have enjoyed writing it, but maybe someone else wants a turn at it.

Frog Watch program at HVNC starts March 28 at the center, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Chole Chunn will be doing the presentation.

The HVNC is very pleased to thank the 50 individuals who have donated to our programs this past year. These donations, plus the sponsors, have helped HVNC to build two new buildings.

The Spring Timber Framing program starts April 23 and runs to the 26. Workshops show you how to make wood that is not valued highly for furniture. Timber framing is so nice, really beautifies the inside structure be it home, cabin or barn. Visit www.hvnc.org.

I want to wish my grandson, Chris Brawn, a happy 23rd birthday. Oh, to be that young again; hope you have a great day. My youngest daughter, Neilly, married Alan Hendrickson 17 years ago this week. Happy anniversary, and I wish you many more.

March came in like a lamb and is sure going out like a lion. The wind has been so strong it has felled trees, etc. Once April gets here we will look forward to May flowers. Have a wonderful week, and tell someone you love them and see them smile; it will give you a good feeling, too.
