Artist Ramone Hanley Warren featured in the gallery

Event has passed

Boothbay Region Land Trust is pleased to announce the opening of a new exhibition by Edgecomb artist, Ramone Hanley-Warren, in the Oak Point Farm gallery room. Hanley-Warren’s show, titled “Drishti: Point of Focus,” features paintings inspired by the natural world. The public is invited to meet the artist and view her work at an opening reception at Oak Point Farm on Thursday, Oct. 19, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Ramone painted plein air in watercolors for 25 years, then abruptly switched to larger format studio paintings in acrylics, seeking more vibrant color and the ability to alter the paintings more readily. Her formal artistic training included an intensive study of art history and painting in Florence, and fine arts studies at S.U.N.Y. Purchase. Hanley-Warren works from her home studio, Damselfly Gallery, on Boothbay Road in Edgecomb. She has had solo shows and participated in exhibitions around the state, and this past summer, she participated in the Boothbay Region Land Trust quadrennial art auction, Art for Acres.

Visitors to Oak Point Farm may be familiar with the work of Ramone Hanley-Warren from her permanent mural in the farmhouse visitor center depicting a great blue heron flying over a salt marsh. “The Boothbay Region Land Trust is such a special place,” notes Hanley-Warren. “I felt a connection even before the land trust found its home at Oak Point Farm.” Soon after BRLT established the Oak Point Farm preserve and visitor center, Ramone recalls, “I knew I wanted to create a mural inside to express the peace and contentment of this environment.”

During the winter of 2019 Hanley-Warren worked for several weeks, designing a stunning scene that evokes the unique beauty of Midcoast Maine. Her mural has been viewed and enjoyed by countless visitors over the years. Fast forward a few years and Hanley-Warren notes, “I am now honored to be exhibiting my artwork in the gallery room.”

In describing her current exhibit, Hanley-Warren explains, “I am drawn to the marshes and tidal areas especially, but not always. Certainly, the natural world around me and all of the beauty it encompasses is what tells me to breathe, see and paint.”

“Drishti: Point of Focus” will remain open for viewing through the spring of 2024 during visitor center hours, Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Ramone Hanley-Warren has generously pledged to donate 20% of all sales from this show to Boothbay Region Land Trust to support land conservation and public access. Oak Point Farm is located at 60 Samoset Road in Boothbay Harbor.
