Arvilla Ames, 93, died Jan. 23, 2016 at Winship Green Nursing Center in Bath.

She was born in North Newcastle on March 21, 1922, a daughter of Thomas Edward and Belle Hardy (Knowlton) Yarbrough.

She attended Whitefield schools and on Nov. 15, 1941 married Charles Linwood Ames.

She enjoyed sewing, gardening and harness racing.

She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Linwood Ames on Dec. 27, 1985 and daughter, Sandra Lynn Ames.

She is survived by two sons, David Ames of Buckfield and William Ames of Pemaquid and Florida; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 31. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 1 at Daigle Funeral Home 819 High Street, Bath. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in the spring.
