‘Bringing Nature Home to Maine’ Garden Club January topic
The Garden Club of Wicasset held a fun, festive and productive meeting Dec. 4, creating holiday baskets and mugs. Lincoln County “Meals on Wheels” received 100 mugs, and 24 baskets were delivered to libraries, town and county offices, post offices, and elderly club members.
Our next meeting is Thursday, Jan. 8 and our speaker is Andrew Tufts, program manager of Maine Audubon. Tufts is very enthusiastic in helping us understand how important it is to restore and rebuild Maine’s natural biodiversity by planting native wildflowers, shrubs and trees that support our wildlife. Even a small increase in native plant cover brings more insects, birds and other animals that use the landscape.
His presentation is at 1 p.m. with a Garden Club business meeting at 12:30 p.m. The public is invited free of charge. The program is held at First Congregational church, 28 High St. (Fellowship Hall) in Wiscasset.
