At 3:21 p.m. Friday, July 1, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported burglary and aggravated assault on Hinks Road in Jefferson.  Upon units’ arrival, they found a 20-year-old woman suffering from a cut to her abdomen.

The woman said she had been home alone with her dog when she heard a noise coming from the attached garage. Upon entering the garage, she found a man rummaging through property stored there. As she confronted the man, he swung an object at her, cutting her abdomen and causing her to fall and strike her head.

The woman’s dog then entered the garage and chased the man away. The man fled through the woods and out to a waiting car on Hinks Road.

The house is currently listed for sale, the garage doors were open and there were no cars in the driveway at the time of the incident.

The man is described as white, approximately six feet tall, wearing a blue-hooded sweatshirt and possibly Nike shoes. The only description on the vehicle is a gray or silver sedan, possibly a four-door.

Numerous units from the Sheriff’s Office and Maine State Police responded to the area and spread out looking for the suspect or suspects. Sheriff’s detectives conducted a neighborhood canvas.

The woman was transported by ambulance to LincolnHealth’s Miles Campus in Damariscotta for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
