Eino Abbott

Eino Hjalmar Abbott, 61, a resident of North Nobleboro Road, Waldoboro, died Tuesday, July 10, at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a brief period of failing health.

He was born Sept. 26, 1950, in Boothbay Harbor, the son of Merritt and Helmi Lampinen Abbott, and was a graduate of Medomak Valley High School. Upon his graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam as part of the 1st Signal Brigade.

After his discharge, Abbott began a 22-year career with Bath Iron Works as a shipfitter. He was also employed by Dow Furniture and assisted his wife with the operating of their two redemption businesses, Abbott’s Redemption and Nanny Redemption, both in Waldoboro.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, tending his flower gardens, watching westerns, drawing with his grandchildren, doing cross word puzzles, and grew to love caring for their dog Chloe and cat Mr. Bubbles. He was a member of the Grange for more than 25 years.

Abbott was predeceased by his brothers-in-law, Pat Hoch and Jack Pauley.

Survivors include his wife Mary Ann Abbott of Waldoboro; four daughters, Angela Severy and her husband David of Chelsea, Michelle L. Littlefield and her husband Christopher of Biddeford, Karen S. Abbott and her husband Eduardo Gomez of Dover, N.J., and Cindy Abbott of Waldoboro; grandchildren, Christopher Knowles of Chelsea and Afghanistan, Joshua Severy and his partner Kelly Peterson of Windsor, Zachary Severy and Rebecca-Ann Severy, both of Chelsea, Sebastien M. Littlefield of Biddeford, Oliver Gomez of Dover, N.J., Dustin Abbott of Waldoboro, Alissa Cunningham of Skowhegan, Von Cunningham of Friendship, a great-grandson, Benjamin Severy of Windsor; six sisters, Nancy Post and her husband Henry, Viola Hoch, June Pauley, Debbie Turner and her husband Dale, all of Waldoboro, Senja Baker and her husband Larry of Nobleboro, and Pamela Thibodeau and her husband Bob; brother John Abbott and his wife Kathy, all of Union; and countless nieces and nephews.

Interment with military honors will be held at the Maine Veterans Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta, on Thursday, July 19, at 2 p.m. A reception and celebration of Eino’s life will be held at the V.F.W. hall on Mill Street in Waldoboro immediately following. Family, friends and loved ones are welcome to attend one or both ceremonies.
