Fall Festival and Moonlight Extra Train at Wiscasset, Waterville, & Farmington Railway Museum

Tue, 09/26/2017 - 7:00am

The Wiscasset, Waterville, & Farmington Railway Museum is holding two events Sept. 30.

The Fall Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Enjoy a day of games, fun and happenings. Board our train at Sheepscot Station at 97 Cross Rd., Alna, and travel up the line to the festival. There will be face-painting, a pumpkin patch, hay rides in the back of a Model AA truck, games and fun for the whole family!

Once again we welcome the Bluegrass Music Assoc of Maine to the festival for a bluegrass pickin' party! Enjoy some old-fashioned music.

Trains regularly depart from Sheepscot at 10:30 a.m., 10:55 a.m., noon, 12:25, 1:30, 1:55, and 3 (the last regular train); however depending on how busy it gets we may run trains more frequently. Simply purchase your ticket at the station and board the train. Spend as much time as you like at the festival. Bluegrass pickers with instruments ride free.

The Moonlight Extra Train, weather permitting, will leave at 6 p.m. Ride the train from Sheepscot Station to Alna Center to enjoy a bonfire, locally pressed cider, snacks and stories of heritage apples, cider-making, and shipping apples via the narrow gauge.

“Apple explorer” John Bunker of FEDCO trees, Maine Heritage Orchard at MOFGA, and Out On A Limb CSA will be joining us to share his experience and the history of growing apples in Sheepscot Valley. John also encourages you to bring apples you would like to have identified.

After sunse,  the train will depart Alna Center amidst the warm glow of oil lamps for a unique steam train ride through the darkness back to Sheepscot.
