The new chairman of the Wiscasset Board of Selectmen, Ben Rines, and newly-elected board member Judy Flanagan were among the attendees at a June 17 solar energy presentation.

Energy expert Paul Kando gave his comprehensive talk on the possibilities for solar power in the town of Wiscasset. Using his own Damariscotta home as an example as to what an individual can do to harness the power of the sun to lower their electrical bills, he then went on to explain the benefits of solar farms and municipal solar arrays.

This evening was organized by the Wiscasset Sun CATs (Climate Action Team), a local citizens group that is exploring clean energy solutions for Wiscasset and neighboring communities.

Another meeting sponsored by this group will take place on Monday, June 29 at the 911 Conference Center from 7 to 8 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to provide interested citizens with an update on CAT solar initiatives and to plan future projects.
