Learn how to be a responsible beverage server

On Thursday, May 28 from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Boothbay Harbor Town Office, Lincoln County restaurant staff and other on-premise liquor licensees are invited to attend a state-certified Responsible Beverage Server Training.

This training is sponsored by Healthy Lincoln County in collaboration with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, police departments of Boothbay Harbor, Damariscotta, Waldoboro, Wiscasset, the Maine State Office of Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMHS) and the Maine State Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages and Lottery Operations (BABLO).

Seller/server trainings such as this are offered as part of a comprehensive effort to reduce underage drinking and drunk driving in our communities. By training managers and waitstaff to understand the importance of enforcing written carding policies and to identify false ID’s, local businesses can become partners in reducing access to liquor by minors.

The Responsible Server Training is a state approved program and will cover the following topics:

  • The Liquor Liability Act
  • Identifying minors to prevent underage sales
  • Interventions to prevent a visibly intoxicated patron from driving
  • False ID detection and carding policies
  • The importance of good written policies to limit licensee/server liability Quality training has proven to be an effective tool which when applied
  • Making local communities safer
  • Reducing youth risk for underage drinking
  • Instills knowledge and confidence in servers to prevent costly violations
  • May reduce Liquor Liability Insurance (check with your provider)

Cost for the training is $15 per individual, payable on the day of training. Registration is required, as seating is limited to 30 participants. The registration fee covers instruction, materials, certificate of completion and registration of successful completion with state liquor enforcement agencies.
