Lighten up

Fri, 12/19/2014 - 9:30am

The evening weather on Channel 6 reminds me of our diminishing daylight. It was just 8 hours and 55 minutes at a recent check.

With all the clouds and overcast it seems like even less. And full sun has been unavailable for almost a week.

At 3:30 in the afternoon I start looking for my pajamas. Maybe Chip Haggett has it right: 3 a.m. get the work coffee on, and 3 p.m. boom it for home!

The miner in me is reminded of less light: Start in the dark, work in the dark, home in the dark — the perfect depression trifecta.

Darkness drives me to an over-stuffed chair. Ignite the “happy light” and chug vitamin D!

But the fake sunshine bulb in my “happy light” is burned out. Even my artificial light is fading.

So, Opera House to the rescue!

    Lights everywhere!

Kevin Kiley and the Opera House staff must have felt my pain.

They have created a winter wonderland of lights and trees and festivity. Let there be light. Kevin heard the call!

Thanks to the Opera House people for helping to fight the blahs of increased darkness.

And thanks to all the gingerbreaders who built marvelous creative displays. There is indeed light at the end of the tunnel.

In a week or so the daylight will begin to increase and I will have a new bulb for the “happy light.”
