Matt Nakoa with Connor Garvey Nov. 11

Event has passed

The Waldo (916 Main St., Waldoboro) is excited to bring acclaimed singer-songwriter Matt Nakoa to the stage on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. with Portland-based musician Connor Garvey opening.

Matt Nakoa, award-winning songwriter, singer, and multi-instrumentalist is a modern troubadour. He makes his home on the highways and concert stages of America, and appears regularly with folk music icon Tom Rush. The Boston Globe says of Nakoa, “Between his piano chops and heartfelt originals on guitar, he drops jaws.”

Before winning a scholarship to Berklee, Matt Nakoa was a goat farmer in central New York state. In addition to his talent with animals, Nakoa is an accomplished classical pianist who discovered a love of singing and writing songs. While at Berklee (Class of 2006), he studied with songwriting greats Pat Pattison and Livingston Taylor. Nakoa was selected to collaborate with Grammy-winner Kathy Mattea during her residence at Berklee.

Nakoa’s 2014 album, “A Dozen Other Loves,” has earned him a place performing alongside folk legends like Patty Larkin, Catie Curtis, and Ellis Paul; and recently brought him a win at the Kerrville Folk Festival’s New Folk Competition.

General admission tickets are available for $25 in advance, $30 the day of the event. A limited amount of front row tickets are available for $40. If this show is not sold out, tickets will be available at the box office starting at 6 p.m. when the doors open. Concessions will be available.
