Midcoast Senior College (MSC) is pleased to announce its Spring Term I 2026 lineup of engaging, non-credit courses for adult learners. Running from Feb. 2 through March 30, the term features a wide range of in-person and online classes in the humanities, sciences, social issues, arts, and contemporary topics. Registration opens Jan. 12.
This term’s offerings reflect MSC’s commitment to lifelong learning through intellectually stimulating courses taught by distinguished scholars and professionals. Subjects include music appreciation, literature, philosophy, history, astronomy, artificial intelligence, sustainability, religion, political theory, economics, and civic engagement.
Highlights include The Curious Listener, an accessible introduction to Western classical music; Engaging with AI, a timely seminar exploring artificial intelligence tools and their social implications; Introduction to Astronomy in Maine, an online journey through the night sky; and Learning from Sustainable Cities in Europe, which examines innovative urban practices abroad.
Literature enthusiasts may choose from seminars on "The Grapes of Wrath," Homer’s "Odyssey," "Sons and Daughters" by Chaim Grade, and "Love Matters in Literature and Life." Other courses explore baseball as cultural history, the Bible as history, collective action and cooperation, democratic education, and pathways for improving local and global well-being.
A special multi-instructor course, The Romantic Era: Literature, the Arts, Revolution, will span the end of Spring Term I and the beginning of Spring Term II, examining the enduring influence of Romanticism across disciplines.
Courses are held at locations throughout the Midcoast, including the University of Maine Augusta–Brunswick Center, Patten Free Library in Bath, Avita at Brunswick Landing, The Highlands in Topsham, and via Zoom. Most classes meet once a week and range from four to eight weeks in length.
