New evening boat parade part of Wiscasset’s Fourth of July plans

    Wiscasset kicks off its 2016 Independence Day celebration with the annual parade, at 10 a.m. Monday, July 4. Line-up and pre-judging start at 9 a.m. on Churchill Street, according to a June 16 town announcement. The route goes from Hooper to Federal streets, then onto Main Street to Middle Street.

    At 11 a.m., a veterans memorial salute and flag-raising will take place on the waterfront, followed at 11:30 a.m. by the Wiscasset Yacht Club’s strawberry shortcake social. The social is open to the public and concludes at 1 p.m.

    Live music with “The Salty Dogs” runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the yacht club pier.

    The yacht club will also be the setting for the announcement of parade winners, at noon, the town announcement continues.

    In a new feature for Wiscasset this year, yacht club members Judy and Alan Boyes will lead the town in an evening boat parade. Line-up is at 8:45 p.m. All boats taking part must meet Coast Guard regulations. Contact Judy and Alan Boyes at 633-5341 for more information.
