First Congregational, UCC Wiscasset, has appointed a new Sunday school director for its Christian education program.

Sandra Golonka, who resides in Harpswell with her husband Vince, moved to Maine from New Hampshire eight years ago. Christian education has held an important place in Golonka’s heart, and she has been involved in teaching and leadership for many years. Golonka was a commissioned lay pastor in the Presbyterian Church, where she had a ministry to adults with developmental challenges, and their families. Among her experiences has been teaching Sunday school, leading Bible studies, directing dramas and preaching.

A large part of Golonka’s Christian experience is tied to the work she does as a volunteer in a Haitian orphanage. In February, she will return to Haiti to work in that orphanage, bringing badly-needed supplies to the children she visits.

Golonka is delighted to be a part of the First Congregational church family, and looks forward to working with the children and youth as they explore their faith together.
