One contest among Alna elections

Of all the local elections lining up for the ballot in Alna on March 20, the third selectman’s seat is the only one to emerge with a contest. Nominations for all the upcoming races closed Feb. 3. Third Selectman David Reingardt, seeking a third, two-year term, will face Planning Board Chairman Doug Baston for the seat.

Melissa Spinney was the lone resident to file papers for second selectman, which will also be for a two-year term, Town Clerk Amy Warner said on Feb. 4. The seat’s current holder Jonathan Villeneuve announced in January that he would not seek reelection.

Barbara Baston is unopposed in her bid for a full three-year term as a representative to Regional School Unit 12. She is currently serving the remainder of a term that James Bailey began. He resigned from the seat in 2014.

Road Commissioner Jeff Verney and Treasurer Aaron Miller have no challengers in their bids for new, one-year terms.

Polls will be open at the fire station on Route 218 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. March 20, Warner said. The annual town meeting follows at 10 a.m. March 21at the fire station.
