One dead under Alna bridge

A 27-year-old Jefferson man died in a late night accident near a bridge on Alna's Dock Road on November 8.

A press release from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office states that Steve Parlin was alone when he was driving east at a high speed, in a black 1995 Ford Ranger pickup truck.

The truck crossed into the westbound lane and Parlin lost control, the release continues. The truck then returned to the eastbound lane where it struck a guard rail and a tree, before falling several feet. It landed in the Sheepscot River.

Sheriff's Deputy Kenneth Hatch helped an Alna firefighter get Parlin out of the truck. But he had already died, according to the release.

Parlin was not wearing a seat belt.

Assistant Alna Fire Chief Roger Whitney lives nearby and said he heard the accident. “It was very, very loud,” he said at the scene.

Members of the Alna Fire Department, Wiscasset Fire & Rescue and Wiscasset Ambulance Service responded after a 911 caller reported the crash at 9:45 p.m.

The state medical examiner's office will take a blood sample from the victim. That's typical for a fatal crash.

The investigation was continuing.

Sheriff's Sgt. Ronald Rollins and Detective Terry Michaud did forensic mapping at the scene; a reconstruction is being done by Sgt. Jason Nein, a crash reconstruction specialist; Deputy Kenneth Hatch is the primary investigating officer; he was helped Friday night by Major Ken Mason and Deputy Kevin Dennison, the release states.
