Special town meeting passes school budget
The proposed 2025-26, $10.74 million Wiscasset school budget passed intact at a special town meeting July 23 at Wiscasset Elementary School, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kim Andersson said.
Andersson said the only budget article that called for a secret ballot vote got 47 "yes" votes, eight "no" votes and one blank. The question read: "To see what sum the Town will be authorized to raise and appropriate in additional local funds for school purposes under the Maine Revised Statutes, Title 20-A, section 15690. The Wiscasset School Committee recommends $3,347,861."
"Glad to have successfully completed Step One. Now working to get the word out on Step Two, the Budget Validation Referendum, on Sept. 4," Andersson told Wiscasset Newspaper.
This is the department's second try. Voters this spring passed a budget offer intact at a special town meeting and then rejected it at the polls, 281-206. This proposal asks $152,151 less of local taxpayers.
The town will set the polling place and times for the Sept. 4 vote, Andersson said.
