Teen filmmakers compete to win $1,000
The submissions are in and the anticipation is growing: which Lincoln County student filmmaker will win the $1,000 top prize at the Teen2Teen VidFest? Fifteen short videos made by Lincoln County students will be judged on their ability to bring attention to the issues of teen tobacco use, distracted driving, and bullying. Besides the $1,000 top prize, the second place winner will receive $500, third place gets $250, and those who attend the free event can vote to choose who wins the $100 Audience Award.
Find out if your pick wins at the screening and awards ceremony Monday, May 6 in Damariscotta at the Skidompha Library’s Porter Meeting Hall (Elm Street entrance). The show begins at 7 p.m.; it’s recommended arriving early when the door opens at 6:45 as seating will be limited. Popcorn and refreshments will be available.
Judging the submissions will be Tara Gardner, Film Program Manager at Maine Media Workshops and College in Rockport; Orion Breen, who is working with Lincoln County Healthcare to lower the rate of youth tobacco use and is a USC Film School graduate; and John Iltis, a longtime leader of the Chicago entertainment industry who has represented The Supremes, Dave Brubeck, and Zsa Zsa Gabor among others, was Chair of the Gene Siskel Film Center, and received recognition promoting the acclaimed documentary “Hoop Dreams.”
