Violet M. Shahan

Violet Marie Shahan, 92, of McGaheysville, Virginia died at Sunnyside Presbyterian Retirement Home on Sunday June 17, 2012.

Violet was born on November 18, 1919 in Tucker County, West Virginia and was the daughter of the late John and Daisy (Shaffer) Miller. She was also preceded in death by a son, Alfred "Al" Shahan, husband Gay Ross Shahan who died on March 16, 2006, and two brothers, Jack Miller, Junior Miller and three sisters, Kathleen Taulbee, Beulah Lyons and Maxine Stringer.

On September 18, 1937 Violet and Gay were married. During World War II she was employed at Mack Moulding in Wayne, N.J. making parts for fighter aircrafts. Gay and Violet moved many times in support of her husband's FBI career. She and her husband moved to the Shenandoah Valley in 1975 from Miami, Fla. to retire and enjoy the area. She was a faithful member of Port Republic United Methodist Church. She was an avid quilter and made many quilts that the family will treasure for years to come. She also enjoyed gardening, golf and bowling. In 2006, she moved to Sunnyside Retirement Community where she found many new friends in the caring Sunnyside Staff.

Her surviving family include three sons, Melvin and Evelyn Shahan of Trevett, Phillip Shahan and partner Michael Stewart of Key West, Florida, and John and Kim Shahan of McGaheysville, five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, Foster Miller and Ivan Miller, both of Ohio.

A Memorial service was held on June 21 at the Meredith Chapel at Sunnyside Presbyterian Home. The Rev. Paul O'Gorek officiated.
