Waiting for word
Wiscasset High School will have to wait a bit longer to find out if it keeps its accreditation.
Principal Deb Taylor had expected to get word in early fall from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, on whether or not the school's accreditation will be renewed for another 10 years.
But a visiting committee's report did not make it to the organization's reaccreditation committee in time for a fall decision, Taylor said.
That pushes the decision back to a winter meeting, she said.
Taylor did not know when that meeting will be; an official with the organization did not immediately return a message from the Wiscasset Newpaper.
Other pending business unrelated to Wiscasset High School appears to have delayed the report's review, Taylor said; it is not a cause for concern, she said.
The visiting committee was in town in May for a four-day evaluation.
No state or other funding hinges on accreditation, but it helps graduates get into competitive colleges, and gives schools an objective look at their practices, Taylor has said.
