Reval pause, sand and a party!
Hello Islanders: Winter's off to a cold and snowy start! A big thanks to Dale Reno and crew for keeping the roads safe, and to our responsible drivers for slowing down when things get slick. Nobody wants to go sledding by mistake!
Town Office Holiday Party is Tuesday, Dec. 23 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Town Office: Join the Selectboard and staff for our annual holiday celebration! Good things to eat and drink, good neighbors to celebrate with, good times for all. Feel free to bring a dish or dessert if you are so inspired. If anyone knows how to play piano, maybe we'll try a round of "The Twelve Days of Christmas" (depending on how strong the punch is).
Town Office Holiday Hours: The Town Office will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 24 for Christmas Eve and Thursday, Dec. 25 for Christmas. We will also be closed on Thursday, Jan. 1 for New Year's Day.
Dog licensing for 2026: Time to license those pups! You can do it here, or do it online, but do it by Jan. 31 to avoid a $25 fine. You will need a current rabies certificate.
Revaluation Update: RCS Assessment Services has paused their property visits for the winter, and will resume in the spring. See the RCS Revaluation Informational Flyer for details on the process and how to contact them. The new property values will be reflected in your 2027 tax bill.
Winter Sand: Winter sand is available free of charge to island residents from our public sand shed (right next to the big sand and salt shed) in the Town Office parking lot. Two buckets per storm, and may we not need too many buckets this season!
Neighbor to Neighbor Heating & Food Assistance: Thanks to the generous donations of many of you, Neighbor to Neighbor is ready and available to help island residents in need with heating and food. If you are in need, or know someone who is, reach out to them at neighbortoneighborwi@gmail.com
Westport Island Woodchucks Emergency Firewood Supply: There is a decent pile of seasoned firewood available for those in need. Contact Donna Curry if you are in need or know someone who is at 353donnac@gmail.com
Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP): This vital program is available to Maine residents who struggle to heat their homes. If you or someone you know is in need, now is the time to apply! Find out more and get the process started here.
Help and Support: In addition to those listed above, the town strives to keep a comprehensive list of local resources for food, fuel, home repairs, transportation, legal assistance, and more on our website. Check it out, and let us know if you know of any resources that are missing.
See our website calendar for a full listing of upcoming meetings and events! While you're there, poke around the website, it's got a wealth of information on all things Westport Island. You can also follow us on Facebook. If you know any Westport Islanders who are not receiving these emails, feel free to forward this and let them know they can be added to the list by emailing townclerk@westportisland.gov
You can find us at the Town Office at 6 Fowles Point Road during our office hours of Tuesdays 10-6, and Wednesdays and Thursdays, 10-2. Call us at 882-8477 or email us anytime!
