Wiscasset announces 2014’s Top Scholars

Wiscasset High School is proud to announce that the following members of the Class of 2014 have earned the distinction of “Top Scholars.” These three seniors each have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher. Following tradition, the Top Scholars are announced in alphabetical order:

Briana Lynn Goud

Briana is a leader, scholar and dedicated member of the Wiscasset High School community. Her many accomplishments have earned her the honor of Girls State Delegate and DAR Representative.

Briana has served as president of the Class of 2014, vice president of the Student Council, president of the National Honor Society, and editor of the yearbook. An active athlete, she has received numerous honors for four years of team participation in Soccer, Basketball and Softball serving as Captain of all three. Briana has received academic awards in a wide variety classes, she was a Top Ten Sophomore and received the Wellesley College Book Award as a junior. She has been employed at the Wiscasset Community Center as a lifeguard and summer camp counselor. 

The daughter of Duane and Tricia Goud of Wiscasset, Briana will attend the University of New England in the fall where she will major in biochemistry and minor in laboratory science.

Sarah Victoria Hanley

Sarah has served her school and community in a variety of ways including volunteer, student leader, and problem solver. She can always be counted on to help with school projects finding positive solutions to difficult task with a friendly good-spirited attitude. 

An outstanding athlete, Sarah has been a member of the Soccer, Swim, and Tennis teams throughout high school. She has served as Captain of both the Swim and Soccer teams and has received numerous athletic awards. 

Sarah has been Secretary of the Class of 2014 all four years of high school and has filled that position for Student Council for two years. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the Outing Club, and has served as a Middle School Mentor. She has received a number of academic awards, was a Top Ten Sophomore, and received the Smith College Book Award her junior year.

Sarah will attend Arcadia University in Glenside, Pennsylvania in the fall to study biology, pre-physical therapy or pre-physicians assistant. She is the daughter of Timothy and Lori Hanley of Wiscasset.

Nathan M. Panarese

Nathan has distinguished himself as an excellent scholar throughout high school. He has received recognition in many areas for academic accomplishments and he was a Top Ten Sophomore. Nathan was the recipient of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Medal for his math and science accomplishments and Phi Beta Kappa Award his junior year. 

Nathan is the co-captain of the Math Team, a member of Student Council, and Treasurer of the National Honor Society. He was a member of the basketball team and is currently a member of the tennis team.

Nathan is the son of Jennifer DiSanto and Warren Hewes of Wiscasset, and Daniel Panarese of Portland. He will attend the University of Maine in the fall where he will major in electrical engineering.
