Wiscasset residents face school budget decisions Wednesday

Wiscasset voters on Wednesday night, May 27, will keep or alter each piece of the proposed $8.4 million school budget. The budget that comes out of the meeting will go to a vote at the polls June 9.

Wednesday’s town meeting-style budget meeting at Wiscasset High School starts at 6 p.m.

The proposal would drop spending by about $1 million over the first year the school department was open; however, the school committee has offered residents the option to spend another $100,000,  to get the high school a science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) lab; and another $32,000 toward the makeover to the Wiscasset Middle School playground.

Those items’ approval Wednesday would get them added to the budget total for the June 9 vote, Interim Superintendent of Schools Lyford Beverage has said.
