Wiscasset Senior Center: Merry Christmas

Mon, 12/22/2014 - 11:00am

Merry Christmas to all. It seems that times are changing. In recent years it seems that many were substituting the term “holidays” for “Christmas” in order to be sensitive to others. Now many are using “Merry Christmas” and taking pride in their Christian heritage while accepting all others whether Christian, Jew, Islamic, etc.

There seems to be more discussions of backgrounds and beliefs and interest in understanding and sharing. This seems to be the case whether it is about religion or race or what part of the world you are from. Isn’t that the whole idea behind Christmas? So Merry Christmas to you.

Just because it is that time of year of giving and receiving beware of strangers bearing gifts. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is. Don’t open any attachments or links in an email. Always go through your bookmarks or look up the sight. Also beware of a note containing an attachment or link from someone you know that seldom if ever sends you these types of things.

Your friend’s email could have been hijacked. If you ever have a question, send a separate email to your friend and ask them what they sent you. While there are many nice people out there, there are some who would like to take rather than give at this time of year.

The cribbage scores for last week are listed below. On Thursday, Dec. 18, all the scores were low. First place was only 808 out of the possible 847. Most weeks all you can say about an 808 is that you made over 800 at least. I cannot remember the last time a score under 810 came in first. I guess this means that everyone had at least one bad game.

The cribbage tournament winners on Tuesday, Dec. 16 were Ken Colby first, Marlene Rines second, Larry Clark third and Dwight Lewis had the low score. The cribbage tournament winners on Thursday, Dec. 18 were Pam Frenier first, Phoebe Cromwell second, Earl Dighton third, Luis Serrano low score and Stuart Wyman had the high hand.

There will be no Wednesday evening dinners next week because of New Year’s Eve. The next dinner will be on Wednesday evening Jan. 7, 2015.
