Wiscasset Town Manager Laurie Smith is leaving to take the town manager’s job in Kennebunkport.

Smith’s last day on the job in Wiscasset will be February 7, 2014, according to her resignation letter.

“I have enjoyed my time in Wiscasset and am extremely proud of the accomplishments we have made as a team,” Smith tells selectmen in the letter, dated December 10. She emailed the letter to local news media December 11. “I am pleased to be able to leave the community in a much more stable financial position...”

Smith thanked the town’s department directors and staff, as well as the volunteers she said had made her job easier.

The decision to take the Kennebunkport job came after careful consideration and much deliberation, Smith wrote.
