The Woolwich Historical Society begins the summer with its first ever summer concert series. Held in the historic Nequasset Meetinghouse on Thursday evenings in July, these concerts feature local musicians, highlighting a variety of talent.

Long-time Woolwich performers Sharon Pyne and Doug Protsik open the series on Thursday, July 10. Pyne, a wooden flute and tin whistle artist, also teaches music in Bath. Protsik, an accomplished accordionist, pianist and fiddler, has also been seen playing “old-time piano” for silent movies.

The Montsweagers perform Thursday July 17. This is a new group of local musicians, many of whom live in the vicinity of Montsweag Road in Woolwich. This group, which has only been performing for a little over a year, features accordion, flute, piano, banjo, drums, and a couple of fiddles. Many residents may have heard the Montsweagers last fall at the annual Veteran’s Day service at the Meetinghouse.

On July 24, Josie Cameron of “Songwriting for Kids” shares her songs. Cameron, who lives in Brunswick, has been singing, writing, and teaching music to kids for more than 10 years. An accomplished performer, she has produced four CDs, the latest a collaboration with Nashville artist Carter Little.

All concerts are held at the Nequasset Meetinghouse on Nequasset Road (opposite the Woolwich Town Office at 13 Nequasset Road) at 7 p.m. Free refreshments.
