Lobster Dip 2019: Register now

Tue, 11/13/2018 - 8:15am

Looking for something really cool to do on New Year’s Day? Perhaps one of your resolutions for 2019 is to help a great cause, to step (dip) out of your comfort zone, or to start the year off with a splash! This event may even be something that you would like to scratch off of your bucket list. We have an excellent opportunity that covers all of these.

It’s time now to register for the 2019 Lobster Dip for Special Olympics Maine. This is Maine’s largest and original ocean plunge. The event will take place on New Year’s Day at noon in front of the Brunswick Hotel at Old Orchard Beach.

In 2018 dippers raised over $100,000 for our statewide, year-round program of sports training and athletic competitions for more than 4,500 adults and children who have intellectual disabilities. New incentives this year for individual and team dippers.

Each dipper must raise a minimum of $100 to get a premium long sleeve T-shirt. New additional incentive prizes for additional monies raised and turned in at registration. Individual and team incentives.

    Here’s how to participate:

Individuals – Raise a minimum of $100. and register properly.

Teams – Five or more dippers (each team member must raise a minimum of $100) may register as a team. Simply choose a team name (and a team costume?) and register under that team name (additional prize incentives apply for top fundraising teams).

Registration: All dippers must register properly, which means you must turn in a minimum of $100 and your completed Lobster Dip release form. Visit our web site at www.somaine.org to download a registration packet or call 879-0489 for details on registering early at the Special Olympics Maine office.

You will have the capability once again, for fundraising online at Firstgiving.com

Bring a printout confirmation of your online funds raised when you register, as this will be applied to your total.

    Helpful tips:

Plan to arrive early, even if you have preregistered – to allow time to find a parking space. Registration on site from 9-11:30

Bring (beach shoes/old sneakers, etc.) to wear into the water, and a towel/blanket/robe – limited changing areas available.

If you preregister, but have more money to turn in on Dip Day, you may do so at registration!

There will be a free post dip party at the Brunswick following the dip (free buffet, cash bar, music and fun).
