History

The Wiscasset Newspaper has been been there for more than 40 years.

We were there when Maine Yankee went up; we were there when the station shuttered its doors.

We were on the sidelines in 1994, when the boys soccer team defied the odds and won a state title; we were in the press box 20 years later when the baseball team was three outs away from a state title.

We were there to tell the community about church suppers, bake sales, lost cats, traffic jams and voting results.

We'll be there next week, too.

While we've added a website, and got on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram, we're still focused on our original mission:

Being the community's voice, crier, sounding board and champion; covering what wants covering and being a reliable source of news every day and every week.

The Wiscasset Newspaper was founded in 1970 and covers Wiscasset, Woolwich, Alna, Dresden, Westport Island and Edgecomb, along with Damariscotta, Newcastle and elsewhere in Lincoln County.

We've gone from setting out type with ink-stained fingers every Wednesday to being able to bring you all your local news in the palm of your hand.

Whether on the page or off the presses, we'll be there, just like we always have.
