Update: Wiscasset Town Clerk Rebecca Brewer on Wednesday provided the now official results of the Sept. 1 vote. She said 956 ballots were cast (the questions were on two separate ballots); the total number of voters came to 478, including absentee voters; the town has 2,650 registered voters. The wastewater treatment plant move bond question passed with 263 yes votes, 214 no's; and the school budget offer lost with 228 yes votes and 250 no's. 

"I am very pleased the WWTP bond was approved by the voters," Selectmen's Chair Alissa Eason said Sept. 2 in response to a request for comment.

As for the school budget's defeat, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kim Andersson told Wiscasset Newspaper Sept. 2, "I am disappointed in the results ... especially with the school year beginning with such an awesome start. But the people have spoken and we will go back to the drawing board to draft a budget revision ..."  Andersson said the next proposal, as with the first two, will go to a special town meeting and what comes out of that will go on to a vote at the polls. 

School Committee Chair Tracey Whitney said she, too, was disappointed the budget didn't pass.

From Wiscasset Town Clerk Rebecca Brewer, unofficial results as of Tuesday night, Sept. 1 were that the bond toward moving the sewer plant passed 263-214 and the second try at a school budget lost with 228 yes votes and 250 no's.

Official results were expected Wednesday, Sept. 2.
