Wiscasset police get $30k reimbursement

At the Nov. 13 Wiscasset selectmen's meeting, Police Chief Larry Hesseltine received approval for a reimbursement check for $30,000 from Brunswick when its police department hired Officer James Fisher from the Wiscasset Police Department.

The funds were meant to help Wiscasset recoup money spent to train Fisher and provide him with uniforms. Hesseltine said the money will be used to train two new recruits, School Resource Officer Cory Hubert and patrol officer Jonathan Barnes at the police academy and to buy items they need to attend the academy.  Both are expected to attend the January class.

The board chose to put the Fourth of July fireworks out to bid for companies. Central Maine Pyrotechnics had been expected to get the job, but Town Manager Marian Anderson wanted to put off signing the contract until Dec. 4 to hear from Recreation Department head Lisa Thompson about her thoughts about the Fourth of July celebration in general. Selectman Ben Rines Jr. said he did not believe it was necessary to wait until then to make a decision about whether or not to sign the contract. Instead, he moved that the contract be put out to bid.

The Recreation Department received one bid for its pickup truck with plow. The bid, from Quirk Chevrolet, was unclear in terms of the cost, extra amenities, and delivery date. The bid was given to Thompson to see if she could clarify the details before the board approved the bid.
