COVID-19 swab-and-send goes mid-turbinate
The Maine swab-and-send COVID-19 tests have significantly improved. Lincoln Medical Partners Emergency Medicine Doctor Timothy Fox said testing criteria have broadened to people who want the test, if they have symptoms or have none. Fox also said the nasopharyngeal (NP) test has finally been replaced by a mid-turbinate test both of which are polymerase chain reaction (PCR) based tests with comparable accuracy.

Mills Administration approves second round of COVID-19 Prevention and Protection Awards under Keep Maine Healthy Plan

Governor expands Rental Relief Program to help prevent evictions
AUGUSTA — Governor Janet Mills announced Thursday MaineHousing will double its rental assistance from $500 to $1,000 through the COVID-19 Rental Relief Program beginning Monday, August 3.
The Governor, who established the program with MaineHousing in April, is dedicating an initial $5 million in Coronavirus Relief Funds (CRF) to support the expansion.

Average age of Maine’s COVID-19 patients falls since pandemic’s start
AUGUSTA — The average age of individuals in Maine testing positive for COVID-19 has fallen since the beginning of the pandemic, according to Maine CDC Director Dr. Nirav Shah.
At the outset of the pandemic, the mean age was 55.2 years old while the median age was 56.7 years old.
Those figures have now fallen to 46.9 years old for the mean and 47.2 years old for the median.

AUGUSTA — The Mills Administration announced additional business reopenings Thursday under the Governor’s rural reopening plan.

AUGUSTA — The Maine CDC has updated its list, May 25, of COVID-19 cases in the state of Maine.
Today, there are 2,074 confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases across the state, including 1,858 confirmed cases and 216 probable cases.
Across the state, 1,290 people have recovered from COVID-19, while 78 people have died. The number of people hospitalized, at some point during their illness, across the state stands at 257.

Boothbay Farmers’ Market begins season
The Boothbay Farmers’ Market opened for another season with 27 members selling a variety of vegetables, plants, coffees and beers. It was a lot like past markets except for one major difference. AUGUSTA — After a delay in releasing updated data by the promised deadline, the Maine CDC has updated its list, May 24, of COVID-19 cases in the state of Maine.
Today, there are 2,055 confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases across the state, including 1,845 confirmed cases and 210 probable cases.
Across the state, 1,263 people have recovered from COVID-19, while 78 people have died. The number of people hospitalized, at some point during their illness, across the state stands at 252.

Gov. Mills issues two flag lowering directives, effective immediately
AUGUSTA — In accordance with directives from the President, Governor Janet Mills ordered Friday the United States and State of Maine flags be flown at half-staff immediately until sunset on Sunday, May 24 in solemn remembrance of the victims of the coronavirus pandemic.
Governor Mills also ordered that the United States and State of Maine flags be flown at half-staff Monday, May 25, until noon in honor of Memorial Day.

Maine CDC corrects death toll data
UPDATED: Two more COVID-19 deaths announced; statewide toll hits 75
AUGUSTA — The Maine CDC has announced, May 22, an additional two COVID-19 deaths in the state, bringing the state’s COVID-19 death toll to 75.
One individual was a resident of Kennebec County and one of Aroostook County.
The Maine CDC erroneously initially reported three new deaths for a total of 76. The error, according to WGME, occurred due to a coding error.
