County promotes 2 sheriff’s department employees
There are a new sergeant and detective at Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department. Jared Mitkus was promoted from detective to detective sergeant and Ethan Burns was promoted from the patrol division to detective.
These promotions were made official during the Oct. 6 commissioners’ meeting. Both promotions were created by former sheriff’s department sergeant Ronnie Rollins, who was loaned to the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.
Chief Deputy Rand Maker described both promotions as “temporary positions" should Rollins return to the department. Lincoln County is now seeking a new patrol officer, which is also classified as a temporary position, according to Maker.
In other action, commissioners approved a memorandum of understanding with Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office. Maker reported Lincoln County would provide back-up transportation services given enough notification. Lincoln County would be compensated for hourly and overtime wages and fuel costs.
Commissioners authorized a $13,480.85 payment for equipment and installation on a new patrol division Dodge cruiser. The equipment was purchased and installed by Island Tech Services in Wiscasset.
Commissioners authorized an agreement with Axon Enterprises, Inc. of Scottsdale, Arizona for providing taser equipment. The contract is $29,002.90 per year for a 10-year term. “This is a tool used probably only once or twice per year. It’s not a high use," Maker said.
Commissioners hired Martha Burnham as a reserve transport/court security officer. She is employed by Two Bridges Regional Jail.
Commissioners authorized a $34,816.59 payment to Radio Communications Maine for repairing three communication towers, one each in Newcastle, Jefferson and Dresden. County Administrator Carrie Kipfer reported the repair needs had ranged from weather damage to old age.
Lincoln County Regional Planning Commission has a new employee. Executive Director Emily Rabbe announced Paige Dolci was hired as a flood plain manager. She is expected to start by the end of October.
Commissioners meet next at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20 in the courthouse.
