Jackson does Maine proud
Dear Editor:
Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate Troy Jackson championed the needs of Mainers in his first of four televised debates with Republican Senator Susan Collins.
Jackson brought a distinctly Maine perspective to the discussion, drawing on his experience as a logger and former state legislator and emphasizing the concerns of working Mainers.
I was particularly struck by his willingness to challenge Senator Collins directly on healthcare, abortion rights, Trump’s immigration policies, and the cost of living in Maine.
When Collins touted getting salt to clear Maine’s roads in the winter, Jackson pointed out that you can’t eat salt. He again and again made clear that she has not used her powerful position as chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee to help Mainers, and instead has voted most of the time to support the disastrous policies of the Trump administration.
Please consider this when you vote on Nov. 3.
