Maine’s largest drone show in Boothbay Harbor July 18
Boothbay Harbor is hosting a spectacle July 18 for America’s 250th birthday with a 700-drone light show put on by Wisconsin-based Northern Lights Drone Shows. The 17-minute show will feature over 20 patriotic and locally themed formations, paired with music. Start time is 9:30 p.m.
The drones are launching from Maine Department of Marine Resources on McKown Point, which will be closed off for public safety. The best views will be along the inner harbor, from Sample’s Shipyard to Whale’s Tale.
Last year, Grizzly Entertainment’s 400-drone light show during the University of Maine’s Homecoming weekend took the title of the largest ever performed in the state, according to that company's website. The Boothbay Harbor event is 300 more drones than that.
The event is sponsored by Friends of Windjammer Days, but organizer Mark Gimbel said they have tried to disentangle the show from Windjammer promotions. “I'm going to keep it as community-based as I can,” he explained.
