Martha L. Reed
Martha Louise Poore Reed, 78, of Boothbay, Maine, went home to be with her Savior on Oct. 4, 2026, passing away peacefully at Safe Havens at St. Andrews Village in Boothbay Harbor after a long illness.
Born on Nov. 21, 1947, to the late Edward N. and Anna R. Poore, Martha was raised in East Boothbay. She attended local schools and graduated from Boothbay Region High School with the Class of 1965. It was during her early grammar school days at the Boothbay Center School that she first caught the attention of her future husband, Alan Reed, who sat directly behind her in class.
Following high school, Martha ventured to the big city to further her education in Boston, attending Bay State College. With her degree in hand, Martha went to work for Fairchild Semiconductor in South Portland before being wooed back to the Boothbay region by the love of her life, Alan. She and Alan were married on June 30, 1973, and built a wonderful life together, raising their two children, traveling, enjoying many adventures, and spending time with their family and church communities.
After raising her children, Martha enjoyed 13 years of serving the community as a town clerk at the Boothbay Town Office before leaving her position to recover from cancer. During her treatment, she received the wonderful news that she would soon become a grandmother three times over. Martha felt this news was a special blessing from the Lord that propelled her recovery.
Martha cherished the title of Grandma and spent as much time as possible with her six grandchildren. They made countless memories together singing, dancing, baking cookies, picking berries, playing games, reading, laughing, and sharing adventures.
Her life was anchored in her faith in Jesus and centered on devotion to those she loved. A faithful member of Boothbay Baptist Church and Boothbay Region Community Fellowship, Martha will be remembered for her wonderful laugh, infectious joy, fun-loving spirit, servant-hearted nature, and genuine care for others.
Martha was predeceased by her beloved parents, Edward and Anna Poore, and her brother, Rodney Poore. She is survived by her devoted husband, Alan W. Reed; her children, Timothy Reed and his wife Heather, and Jamie Smith and her husband Philip; her six cherished grandchildren, Zuriel, Elijah, Moriah, Sunny, Asher, and Atlas; her sister, Mary Tilton and her husband Alan; her sister-in-law, Karen Poore, the widow of Rodney Poore; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Martha’s family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Safe Havens at St. Andrews for the care and kindness they gave to Martha over the last nine months.
A service celebrating Martha’s life and faith will be held on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 1 p.m. at Boothbay Baptist Church, 999 Wiscasset Road, Boothbay, Maine. Friends and family are invited to gather for a reception in the church fellowship hall following the service. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
