There has to be a better solution

Dear Editor:

I read with alarm that the DOT plans to tear down Haggett Garage and replace it with a parking lot.

Not only will this weaken the fabric of the downtown village community but it removes a solid commercial building with historical value from the town infrastructure and the long-term tenant/would-be owner, the Midcoast Conservancy, will have to relocate, perhaps out of town.

Show me one village area that has been improved by replacing buildings with parking lots.

There must be a better solution.
