BHML AND HEALTHY KIDS OFFER WORKSHOP FOR COMMUNITY MEMBERS WHO WANT TO SUPPORT CHILDREN AND FAMILIES

The Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library and Healthy Kids is offering through Zoom, the Front Porch Project workshop for any community member who has ever been concerned about a child or family in a public place like the grocery store, or your neighborhood. As the pandemic has continued, families have faced immense stress. It is important, now more than ever, to speak up or act if you are concerned for a child, and to support families when they are struggling.

The Front Porch Project workshop is three hours and will be offered over two evenings, Wednesday and Thursday March 2nd and 3rd from 7-8:30 pm on Zoom. The workshop looks at why people do (and don’t) get involved and provides strategies on how you can help by stepping in and supporting families. CEU’S are available through UMaine for professionals taking the workshop.

Specifically, this training teaches you to: Increase your awareness regarding child maltreatment, identify when and how to get involved, increase your comfort level with intervening, understand differing parenting styles, think about possible responses, understand the impact of culture, gender and socioeconomic status and to reach out to your community to help kids and families.

The Front Porch Project is funded in part, by donations to the Maine Children’s Trust on behalf of Marissa Kennedy, a Lincoln County child tragically lost to child abuse.
