Register Now for Sail Kids For Free (SKFF) Program

Rockland’s Sail, Power, and Steam Museum (SPSM) with its Midcoast Sailing Center (MCSC) is excited to once again announce registrations are open now for its popular free youth sailing program - Sail Kids For Free (SKFF). The link is live at: www.midcoastsailingcenter.org.  This program takes place at MCSC on the grounds of the Old Snow Shipyard, at 75 Mechanic St., Rockland, ME.

This morning program gets future sailors ages 8-14 out on the water for week-long sailing lessons at no cost to them – regardless of their ability to pay. The students learn seamanship, rigging, water safety, and sailing science. Over the course of a week, they experience new and exciting challenges, build skills, and memories to last a lifetime!

Museum founder, Capt. Jim Sharp believes local kids need access to the water, to boats, and to lessons. Every summer Capt. Sharp can’t wait to watch the kids learn to sail. Additionally, the SKFF program instills teamwork, confidence, and supports vital STEM education.

Aside from the SKFF program, there’s economical lessons each afternoon (by appointment) for more experienced sailors, both youth and adults, as well as charter opportunities. The MCSC also houses a working boat shop on the waterfront. All programs support the SPSM’s mission to: Celebrate, Honor, Experience, and Share the Story of Maine’s Maritime Heritage.

Over the last six years, SKFF has taught hundreds of budding sailors. Registration fills up quickly, so reserve your child’s spot by visiting www.midcoastsailingcenter.org and completing the forms under the menu ‘Youth Sailing.’ Please, only register if certain of the child’s participation - there is always a waiting list.
