Arrests in Lincoln County cable theft
Three people were arrested and charged by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office after an intensive investigation into several thefts of communications cable in recent weeks. Reggie French, 49, brother Steve French, 54, and Reggie French's girlfriend, Jennifer Decosta, 44, all of China, were charged with Aggravated Criminal Mischief, a Class C felony.
Just after 5 a.m. Friday, May 9, all three were allegedly caught in the act by LCSO detectives and deputies on Jefferson Road (Route 126) in Whitefield. The suspects were allegedly using a ladder and a “shepherd’s hook” to pull down the cable and then cut the cable with a power grinder. The alleged act is estimated to have cost about $10,000 in damage.
Consolidated Communications has estimated loss and damages, in connection with recent incidents it has experienced, to exceed $230,000.
